February 11, 2010. Asthma quick facts.
Asthma is a severe and chronic disease that affects approximately 300 million people worldwide and more than 16 million adults and nearly 7 million children in the United States. In 2005, there where nearly 1.8 million emergency department visits for asthma. Asthma can be caused by pollen, molds, dust, etc... There is no cure for asthma at this time but the disease can be controlled in most patients with medical care. The condition should be taken seriously, since uncontrolled asthma may result in emergency hospitalization and possible death.
From researching this topic i learned that asthma can go away during teenage years but can come back in your twenties to forties. I also learned that alot of people have asthma. Also that little things can trigger it off either from mold, dust, pollen and more but even more so is allergies. But asthma can be very severe if people don't take care of it right away.
In my opinion I wish there was a way to get rid of it besides medication. But there's nothing else you can really do besides that and exercising and trying to avoid what triggers it off. But at least its not contagious. :)
Since i have asthma i think this information is helpful in someways. I take medication to help it when i get attacks. But its still really annoying. But i can apply these tools to help me cope with it by avoiding certain stuff, and taking my medication regularly and by seeing my doctor when i need to, like this article has said.
